Tips For Wearing Ballet Boots

Wearing ballet boots is not for the faint hearted. If you're not used to stretching of this level you may get cramp in your calves as well as other leg muscles. To minimize the risk of cramping and other injuries caused from walking in such high heels, we strongly recommend a good stretching warm-up before wearing your boots and again when you take them off.
We have put together a short guide to help beginners wearing ballet boots for the first time. Please take this as a guide only. Each individual will have very different leaves of fitness and as such will require different levels of preparation. We would also like to point out that ballet boots are better suited for lighter people. The heavier you are the more weight you will be putting onto your toes and ankles consequently increasing the risk of injury.

1. Stretch all the body before wearing ballet boots. In particular make sure you stretch your feet, ankles and calves. If you are unfamiliar with how to stretch correctly then seek some expert advice. Ballet boots are really no joke. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

2. When wearing your ballet heels for the first time, try just sitting in them for a short time to get used to the way they feel. Get use to the angle of your foot and the position of your toes.

3. When standing for the first time try and slowly build up the time you are upright. Let your muscles get used to the extreme angle and the weight of your body. Stay close to a chair so if you start to get cramp or feel unstable you can quickly sit back down again. Try standing in front of a mirror to check your posture. If the front of the boots look folded you are probably not standing in a true En Pointe. This will come with practice.

4. As you build up your confidence and start to walk hold on to someone for support. This can help take some of the weight off you toes until you get used to them. Keep an eye on your posture, try to keep the legs straight and you don't want to slouch as this will be bad for the back. When walking place the heel on the floor first.

5. Practice makes perfect. Just keep working at it and you will get there in the end. Just remember to take things slowly.
